ISLAMABAD: Pakistani political commentator Zaid Hamid has filed a petition in Supreme Court (SC) seeking registration of a treason case against senior journalists, including Hamid Mir, Najam Sethi, Hassan Nisar and others.
Pakistan’s famous lawyer and All Pakistan Muslim League member Ahmad Raza Kasuri, appeared on behalf of the petitioner and filed the petition in SC.
Zaid Hamid is seeking the iplication of treason charges against senior journalists, including Hamid Mir, Najam Sethi, Hassan Nisar, Marvi Sarmad, Imtiaz Alam, Nusrat Javed and lawyer Asma Jahangir.
The Supreme Court has admitted the petition for hearing after setting aside the objections raised by the Registrar of the apex court. Zaid Hamid had filed an appeal against the objections made by the Registrar’s Office .
The SC registrar had raised objections to it. The petitioner had made the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) and the Ministry of Information as respondents in his application filed in 2012.
Commenting on the development, a journalist said a self-claimed agent of agencies Zaid Hamid considered only himself as a patriot and all journalists as traitors.
