ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday has approved appointment of Justice Tassaduq Jilani as new Chief Justice of Pakistan following upcoming retirement period of current CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Ongoing Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, is retiring on December 11 while Justice Tassaduq Jilani will succeed the position on basis of seniority.
Justice Jilani will take charge of his post on December 12 just a day retirement of current CJ of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
It should be mentioned that Justice Jilani’s retirement period is also near as on July 5 of the next year, hence, he would perform his duties for 7 months and 18 days on the post.
Pakistan’s President approved the appointment as per suggestion of the country’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under sect 175 of the Constitution.
Justice Tassaduq Jilani is also holding the post of acting chairman of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the highest electoral board of the country.
