KARACHI: The Pakistan’s government has made some significant developments in elimination of energy crisis on Tuesday by initiating coastal power project in Karachi and nuclear powered plants on specified spots to collect huge amount of electricity of approximately 62,000 mega watt overall.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated a Coastal Power Project in Karachi of 22,00 MW while formally announced establishment of six nuclear power plants to get 40,000 MW electricity in the country.
The inauguration and announcement are being considered as the largest-ever projects and planning in the energy crisis hit country while several other plants are also under construction.
The Pakistan’s premier visited the metropolitan city of Pakistan, Karachi, on Tuesday (today) for ground breaking ceremony of the coastal power project.
While addressing to participants of the ceremony, Nawaz Sharif said that the inauguration of the coastal power project is the first step towards eradication of electricity shortage in the country.
He announced that the six nuclear power plants will be established on different spots of the country having capability to generate 40,000 MW of electricity by 2050.
PM Sharif detailed the development work on nuclear energy generation projects by revealing that the country’s atomic energy commission spotted 6 areas in Pakistan for the plants and the federal government is much focused on the provided suggestion.
Besides the large-scale planning and decisions, he also announced that Pakistan government is working at a time on three hydel-power project including Diamer Bhasha, Dasu and Bonji Dams for getting 15,000 MW electricity in near future.
The Prime Minister said the coastal city of Pakistan, Karachi, is considered being a major port‚ had an immense potential.
“Today people look with envy towards cities like Dubai‚ Hong Kong‚ Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. I wish to see Karachi in this list of harbours and industrial hubs because I believe in the people of this city.”
The Prime Minister also congratulated the Strategic Plans Division and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission on the groundbreaking of its fifth and the largest power project. “I wish them success in the coming years in the realization of Energy Vision – 2050.”
