Islamabad: Election Commision of Pakistan rejected proposal of Sindh and Punjab to postpone local bodies elections till March 2014 and announced to hold elections in Sindh on January 18th and in Punjab on January 30th.
Acting Election Commissioner Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani has said local bodies’ elections in Sindh will be held on 18th January‚ in Punjab on 30th January while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa‚ Cantonment boards and Islamabad in February.
He proposed the dates while chairing a high level meeting in Islamabad which was discussing preparations for local bodies’ polls
Acting Election Commissioner called upon the departments concerned to extend full cooperation to the Commission for holding of transparent local bodies’ polls.
He said that it was the democratic right of people to have access to the local government.
Federal Secretaries of different ministries‚ chief secretaries of four provinces‚ Chairman NADRA and Managing Director Printing Corporation of Pakistan were attended the meeting.
