ISLAMABAD: Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB), the subordinate department to the Ministry of Water and Power of Pakistan, has failed to provide any competent results to the nation in completing solar energy projects after spending billions during last 10 years.
Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) completed wind mill projects of only 106 megawatts of electricity generation capability which are producing 14 megawatts electricity.
According to governmental records, the energy board issued letters of interest (LOI) to 72 local and foreign companies during Pervez Musharraf’s tenure which subsequently cancelled by next Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government in 2008 on basis of fake documents, Daily Nai Baat reported.
AEDB issued new LOIs to 23 companies and commenced development work on 700 mw solar energy project, however, not even a single project has completed till yet.
Surprisingly, the alternate energy board provided duty free import facility for solar energy equipments even though there is no presence of solar powered projects in governmental documents.
Three private companies were awarded by the permission for assembling solar PV panels in Pakistan and the work is continued, according to the documents.
The ground reality revealed in the reports that only 14 megawatts of electricity is being added in the national grid from billions worth 106 mw projects in Pakistan.
