KARACHI: The former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has once again come down hard on the Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the International Cricket Council (ICC), saying that the unit had not been able to serve the purpose for which it was formed in the early 2000. “Lectures, showing videos and burdening the players with strict vigilance mechanism and that’s it. The menace could not be curbed by such practices. To me they [ACSU] is in disarray”, said Latif while talking to this correspondent for News One TV.
“The ACSU seems clueless”, said Latif who added that the top world book-makers were neither mentioned by the ICC nor by the anti corruption unit.
“Pick a list of twenty top bookies around the World, and you will find most of them from India but during lectures, to the players, the ACSU only shows the picture of Annu Bhat”, mentioned Latif, who is considered as the whistleblower against the match fixing in mid 90s.
“Danesh, Shoban, Vinod, Manoj Dubai, Jeeto, Pinky, Naveen Sachdeva Tinko, Jeeto, Manoj, Bharat Club, Ashok, Ramesh, Ravi Kumar, Jainty, Mama, Rakesh, Kothari, Mukesh Dilli, Mukesh Gupta and Ashok Calcutta”, the list of top bookies revealed by Latif who further said that two of the list – Pinky and Jeeto – were murdered while Sachdeva Tinko was arrested by the CBI.
Annu Bhat is the man dubbed as an Indian booker, during the inquiry into spot fixing by the ECB, which led to a lifetime ban on Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria.
“If Annu Bhat was as dangerous as was presented by the ECB or the ICC, then why he hasn’t been arrested as yet. Probably he [Annu] was ICC’s informer but I am not sure about it either.” Latif said
“Why the CBI, which nabbed a few bookies in India recently, didn’t even mention Annu Bhatt in its report”, Latif asked
