ISLAMABAD: National Alien Registration Authority (NARA), an autonomous institution of Pakistan to process immigration, has found itself empty in maintaining the records of foreign nationals residing in the country.
NARA, who is primarily responsible for legally registering the immigration process in the country, is completely unaware about the current number of foreign nationals present in Pakistan, local media reported.
The reports said that inactivity of the department surfaced as special registration numbers and cards were not issued from the department since last few months.
It is pertinent to note, NARA was constitutionally established by the Pakistani government in 2000 under 2nd Amendment to the Constitution for maintaining complete records and legal registering of the immigration process in the country.
The department is running under direction of Aftab Allam, Director General NARA, while the headquarter is located in Karachi city of the Sindh province and has eight zonal offices.
