Lahore: Following a near simple majority in national assembly, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz is discussing various options for formation of next government of the country.
Nawaz League has emerged as the leading political party in the polls, held on May 11, wiping out rival Pakistan Peoples Party.
Slightly new political party Pakistan Tehrik i Insaf, however, gives a tough competition to the future ruling party in Punjab, which has most number of national assembly seats.
PML-N sources say that party head Nawaz Sharif has wished to start parliamentary year from 28 May, the day when South Asian state conducted nuclear test in 1998.
The nuclear state, however, has been marred by growing inflation, economic woes and power outages. Internal and external threats like terrorism, extremists attacks and lawlessness are some other things which have to be tacked by the new government.
In the high level meeting of the party, PML-N office-bearers have opposed making Chaudhry Nisar Ahmed chief minister of Punjab, the post on which Shahbaz Sharif had worked for five years.
“Chaudhry Nisar has won two provincial assembly seats as well as one national assembly seat, but PML-N leaders have opposed appointing him as the next chief minister.”
“Shahbaz Sharif is likely to get post after PML-N and his elder brother Nawaz Sharif dismissed his request to appoint him Federal Minister for Water and Power.”
Shahbaz has repeatedly pledged to public during the election campaign that he would end worst load-shedding from the country.
According to PML-N sources, Chaudhry Nisar will be appointed as federal minister for petroleum, where he is expected to perform well.
PML-N has been contacting other parties and independent candidates to empower its next government. Efforts are also being made to form a coalition government in restive province of Balochistan.
In other provinces like Sindh and Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa, Nawaz Sharif has made it clear that his party will respect mandate of other parties in respective provinces.
Earlier reports have stated that Senator Ishaq Dar, a close relative of Sharif family, has been chosen to run economic affairs to the country giving an immediate boost to Karachi Stock Exchange and other stock exchanges.
