London: Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has announced it budget-friendly new Windows Phone 8 based Lumia 620.
The company announced the smartphone during LeWeb 2012 in Paris on Wednesday to battle with fast-growing rivals including iPhone-maker Apple Inc and vendors of Android-based handsets such as South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.
The Lumia 620 features 3.8-inch TFT screen at WVGA resolution (800 x 480), 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor and 512MB of RAM. It also has 8GB of internal storage and it could be expanded up to 64GB by by microSD. A 5-megapixel camera with LED flash capable of recording 720p video occupies the back while it also has a VGA front camera. It supports WiFi, WCDMA 3G with NFC and Bluetooth 3.0 for connectivity. A 1,300mAh battery powers the Lumia 620.
A Windows Phone 8 device, the Lumia 620 comes with Internet Explorer 10, 7GB free Skydrive storage, and access to the Xbox media store. Nokia’s exclusive apps for music, navigation, and photography are also there for the taking.
While the 620 doesn’t have wireless charging capabilities.
The phone will be released at budget friendly price of $249 excluding taxes and subsidies.
The smartphone will hit first Asian markets in January next year, then to Europe, the Middle East and other territories later.
