Islamabad: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Admiral (rtd) Fasih Bokhari is likely to be removed from his post and Saeed Ahmed will replace the incumbent NAB chief, sources said on Thursday.
In a press conference on November 17, Chairman (NAB) Fasih Bokhari vowed not to step down from his post saying that he would eliminate the curse of corruption from the country.
According to sources in the bureau, the chairman was under tremendous pressure after initiating investigations against top politicians, generals and other influential persons but at his press conference Fasih rejected the view and said that there was no pressure on NAB from the Presidency or the General Headquarters (GHQ).
It is to be mentioned here that according to article 6 b (i) of the NAB ordinance 1999, the president can appoint the Bureau chairman after consulting the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly for a non-extendable period of four years on such terms and conditions as may be determined by the President and shall not be removed except on the grounds of removal of Judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan.
