Mumbai: Ailing Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s was in a critical condition and the party sources has described it as “serious” late on Wednesday night.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a party official said, “Thackeray is serious, but stable. A team of doctors is continuously monitoring him.”
There were reports that the 86-year-old leader had been put on a ventilator, but party officials denied them.
“Bal Thackeray is not on ventilator, but is on continuous oxygen.”
Two days ago, Thackeray, in a personalised edit in Saamna, the party mouthpiece, had declared that his health was poor, but he was not put on ventilator, as claimed by a section of the media.
The Sena chief’s nephew Raj Thackeray visited him in the afternoon at ‘Matoshri’, the clan’s home in Mumbai’s Bandra east.
The condition of Thackeray has raised concern within the party and members had started gathering outside Matoshri, the residence of the leader in Mumbai.
According to the latest reports, traffic to the residence of Thackeray has been blocked and there is heavy presence of police personnel in the area.
