Karachi: Traders of various markets in Karachi are forced to pay extortion money amid worst law and order situation in the city, also known as the hub of economic activities.
According to the business community, extortion money is now being taken on monthly basis from various markets of the city. The bigger the proportion of a business, the higher would be the rate of extortion money, ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 from each shopkeeper.
The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has also conveyed that the traders are coping up with their businesses while being threatened by extortion, kidnapping for ransom, and fear of seizure of trucks loaded with goods.
They lamented that traders of the city who pays the most taxes were compelled to move their businesses to other cities in the absence of security and stability. They urged the authorities to take required action to improve the law and order situation.
