Islamabad: The meeting of Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC), presided by Prime Minster Gilani, has concluded here on Tuesday, after making final decisions regarding the restoration of Nato supplies, sources said on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Gilani told the members present at the meeting that Nato supplies should be restored.
Heads of all three forces, chairman joint chiefs of staff committee, ISI chief as well as federal ministers from defence, interior, foreign affairs, finance and information ministries are also attending the meeting.
The Prime Minister said that it was not in Pakistan’s interest to further stop Nato supplies as it would deteriorate relationship of the country with 48 countries present in the Nato alliance.
“Pakistan will not allow weapons to be transported through Nato supplies,” the PM added.
The DCC demanded US to provide Pakistan with $1.2 billion in terms of Coalition Support Fund.
The Committee also approved President Asif Ali Zardari’s participation in the Nato Summit to be held in Chicago.
The DCC further formed a new committee which would finalize the resumption of Nato supplies.
The committee would be chaired by Secretary of Finance Ministry while representatives from Ministry of Defence, Foreign Ministry, Finance Ministry and Joint Staff Headquarters would also participate in the meeting.
A new name for Nato supplies ‘Ground Line of Communication (GLC)’ was also used in the meeting.
The committee has also given mandate to Pakistani military in order to negotiate with the Nato and ISAF officials to resolve the issues at border areas in order to avoid incidents like Salala in near future.
