London: Newcastle upset Chelsea 2-0 on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge, boosting their hopes to qualify for Champions League.
Chelsea are at sixth position after the and four points behind the winners Newcastle.
Papiss Cisse scored two of the goals to lead Newcastle to victory. He has scored 13 goals in a total of 12 games he played in the season.
He shot a powerful kick in the 19th minute that went past the opponents’ goalkeeper Petr Cech.
The Senegalese scored the stunning second and last goal of the match in stoppage time at the end of the game.
The loss meant the losers, like fellow FA Cup finalists Liverpool, suffered a defeat in their final match before Saturday’s showpiece match at Wembley.
Usually, the top three clubs at the end of the Premier League season qualify for the Champions League proper, with the fourth-placed side entering the preliminary round.
But if Chelsea beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League final at the German club’s home ground on May 19, they will take the place that would otherwise go to the team finishing fourth in the Premier League.
