Islamabad: Political reason or not, a child at an official polio launching event refused to drink Polio drops by Prime Minister of Pakistan Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani.
Despite repeated efforts by the country’s executive, the child remained adamant not to drink the polio drops. The premier kept on trying to give the child, whose name was not confirmed, polio drops.
Later on with help of mother of the kid and official of National Polio Program of Pakistan, he managed to give the kid essential drops to develop immunity against deadly polio virus.
Pakistan is running the fresh episode of polio vaccination campaign across the country.
“Our target is to reach over 34 million children living across the country,” officials of the national program said.
Pakistan is one of the remaining countries in addition to some poor states in Asia and Africa where repeated vaccination has proved futile to curb the deadly virus in kids.
Officials attributed the spread of polio in Pakistani children to Afghan refugees who live in insanitary conditions in KhyberPukhtoonkhwa, the province adjacent to restive Afghanistan, and other parts of the country.
