Lahore: Several M-Phil. students out of total 121 of King Edward Medical University, country’s premier medical school, have left their studies after administration fails to approve their thesis for basic sciences.
“Thesis of basic science subjects has not been approved for session 2007 to2009 and resultantly examinations have not been conducted for the students,” university sources said.
They viewed most of the M-Phil. students were suffering from depression owing to their uncertain future.
At start of 2007 session, KEMC administration started admission in M-Phil. For subjects of Anatomy, Physiology Oral Anatomy, Oral Pathology, Molecular Biology, Micro Biology, Hematology, Bio Chemistry, Clinical Chemistry, Community Medicine Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, Physiotherapy And Bio Statistics.
As many as 121 students took admission in these subjects; however, lack of vibrancy by admission led most of these student to drop M-Phil. Program.
So far only three departments have approved thesis of students, apparently belong to influential families.
“The departments include Anatomy, Oral Pathology and Physiotherapy and even medals were given to these students,” sources added.
“Most of the students have winded up their study due to discriminatory behavior of administration.”
Vice Chancellor of KEMC Dr. Muhammad Aslam said that he was unaware of thesis issue and all the students whom thesis were not approved could give applications.
