Karachi: PSO in its role as a public sector organization has always complied with all relevant laws and directives issued by the Government of Pakistan including those of the Sub-Committee of the Cabinet for the Regularization of Contract/Daily Wage Employees to ensure public sector compliance in this matter.
In compliance to the decisions of this Cabinet Sub Committee, PSO has already regularized its contract employees who have completed satisfactory service of one-year in PSO, while in light of Sacked Employees Reinstatement Act/ Ordinance PSO has already reinstated all such employees and has paid them three years compensation.
During a process reengineering and streamlining exercise carried out in 2001, service providers had been hired for the provision of day-to-day services for the company. All temporary workers had left to join the ranks of these independent job contractors in return for access to enhanced benefits such as annual increments/ leaves/ group life insurance/ gratuity and other services. Under the terms of the agreements signed with these companies, all employees provided by the outsourcing agencies are designated as being employees of the contractor and not PSO itself. The contractor may depute them in any of the companies he has a contract/ agreement with.
Furthermore, the company has an approved and established recruitment policy. This procedure includes vacancy announcements, short listing on the basis of pre-defined criteria, a written pre-recruitment test, panel interviews, medical tests and verification of educational degrees. It is then followed by a set probationary period before issuance of confirmation letter to the employee. These sequential steps allow the company to maintain the integrity of its recruitment policy and help the nation’s largest public sector company to hire the best human capital for its requirements. Anyone including the employees of the independent service contractors may follow the above mentioned stages to be made permanent at PSO.
Pakistan State Oil has been responsibly fulfilling its commitment to the people of the nation for the past 35 years. The senior management of the company has been in constant communication with the highest levels of the Government and public representatives to ensure compliance to the directive of the Sub Committee of the Cabinet. Therefore the company believes that there is no use of pressure tactics such as public protests by employees of the third party contractor. PSO has always strived to provide the best for the people of the country, and as time passes by, we pledge to continue doing ever more.
