Mexico City: Mexican Interior Minister Francisco Blake died in a plane crash in the south of Mexico City on Friday, media reported.
Blake, 45, was traveling between Mexico City and the state of Morelos just to the south, his ministry said.
Mexico is locked in a cruel conflict against drug lobbies that has killed 45,000 people in the last five years. Blake is a key member of President Felipe Calderon’s security team.
Mexico’s government has confirmed Blake’s death.
Blake is the second Mexican interior minister in Calderon’s presidency who died in an aviation accident.
In November 2008, Juan Camilo Mourino died when his small plane crashed next to a major Mexico City boulevard during rush hour.
