Karachi: There needs to be greater and more effective interaction between the business community and the Government of Pakistan in order to ensure that policy drafted by the Government is acceptable to the key stakeholders.
This was stated by Mr. Dawood Usman Jakhura, Vice President-FPCCI while chairing a meeting with the delegation of the Mid Career Management Course (MCMC) from the National Institute of Management, Peshawar during their visit to the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Head Office on Monday, October 31, 2011 as a part of their training program.

While discussing the economic conditions of the country, Mr. Jakhura stated that Pakistan’s tax-to-GDP ratio was very low as compared to regional competitors such as Bangladesh and China. He underlined the need for a more widened tax base, but urged the Government to take the business community on board when devising policies to address the low tax-to-GDP ratio.
Mr. Akbar Khan, while acknowledging the problems faced by Pakistan, stressed that law and order and the energy crisis were the two areas where the most serious action should be taken by the Government.
