Karachi: FPCCI has been invited to organize Pakistan’s participation in Sri Lankan Expo 2012, from March 28, 2012 to March 30, 2012. The invitation was extended by Mr. D. W. Jinadasa, Consul General of Sri Lanka during the meeting with Mr. Khalid Tawab, Vice President-FPCCI at Federation House.
He further informed about the salient features of the Expo 2012, which is going to be Gala event providing excellent opportunities to participating countries to promote their bilateral trade with Sri Lanka.
He also suggested for the visit of FPCCI Trade delegation on Sri Lankan Expo for interaction with Sri Lankan counterpart. Mr. Khalid Tawab, Vice President FPCCI accompanied by Mr. Dawood Usman Jakhura, Vice President – FPCCI, Mr. Waseem Vohra, Chairman FPCCI Standing Committee on Foreign Investment, Syed Masood Alam Rizvi, Secretary General and Mir Nasir Abbas Director General (International Affairs) expressed his thanks for the invitation and assured the Consul General that FPCCI will make all possible efforts to exploit Sri Lankan Expo.
While discussing the promotion of bilateral trade, Mr. Khalid Tawab Vice President FPCCI suggested that Pakistan and Sri Lanka should make the maximum use of the FTA between them. He further suggested to Mr. D.W. Jinadasa, Consul General to take up the matter of enhancement of rice quota from Pakistan with his government as Pakistani basmati rice is in great demand in Sri Lankan market and is duty free. It was also agreed upon that Pakistan Sri Lanka Business Council of FPCCI will organize seminars on the awareness of FTA between two countries. The matter of promotion of tourism aspects also came under discussion and it was also decided that tour operators of both the countries will explore the possibility of projecting tourism potential exist in both countries.
