Washington: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has declared the Haqqani network as dangerous for Americans, Afghans and coalition members inside Afghanistan but said the United States remains open to strike a peace deal with the group.
In an interview with a news agency, Clinton said that it was too early to tell whether any of insurgent groups or any individual within them were serious in talks.
She said the United States would stick to its military campaign as it would help make militants more likely to enter serious negotiations.
“Now, it is also true that we are still trying to either kill and capture or neutralise Haqqanis,” Reuters new agency quoted her as saying.
She said that Haqqanis were still trying to kill as many Americans, Afghans and coalition members as they can.
Americans blame Haqqani network, a strong faction of the Afghan Taliban largely believed to be based in western Pakistan, for last month’s attack on the US embassy in Kabul and a truck bombing that injured scores of US soldiers.
