Karachi: Dozens of suspects have been arrested during late night search operations carried out by Rangers and police in different areas of Karachi.
The late night search operation was carried out in different tension-hit areas including Lyari, Orangi Town, Kati Pahari, Qasba Colony, Korangi Twon and Pahalwan Goth. The law enforcing agencies also recovered eight motorcycles and weapons during the operation, police claimed.
According to The News Tribe correspondent, police have also claimed to arrest Baluka Khan, brother of notorious culprits Bhalo Khan, from Kati Pahari.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik himself supervised the operation and visited Qasba Mohammed Pur and mingled with the locals.
Malik ordered law enforcing agencies not to cover the faces of arrested accused. He said we are trying our best to restore peace in Karachi and every possible step will be taken in this regard.
Earlier, Operation preparation
Heavy contingents of Police and Rangers have reached Lyari and several parts of Orangi Town and operation is expected to be launched soon. In the meanwhile seven people were gunshot injured in Lyari.
In the fresh incident when Rangers were cordoning off the old city area of Lyari for operation, unidentified armed assailants riding a bike opened indiscriminate fire over people in Agra Taj Colony injuring seven, two of them were said to be in critical condition.
The Rangers and police have started patrolling in different areas of Karachi.
Meanwhile, Rangers have been deployed in Old Area Lyari, however, police will launch all operations in Qasba Colony while Rangers will provide assistance to police.
The Rangers have started snap checking in different areas of Lyari. On the other hand, residents of Lyari came out of their houses and started protest against Rangers operation in Lyari.
According to the sources, the door to door search operation would be conducted after cordoning off the area.
Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that police and Rangers have been given complete powers. He said no particular areas were selected for operation, adding operation will be carried out according to intelligence reports.
