Washington: An earth quake of 6.0 magnitude rattled several states of America including Washington, New York and Virginia on Tuesday, US geological survey reported.
The US Geological Survey said the center of the earthquake was some 9 miles (15km) from the town of Mineral, in the state of Virginia. The quake hit at 13.51 local time (17.51 GMT).
At the time of the shocks, majority of the people were in their offices. After the shocks important buildings including Pentagon, White House and surrounding buildings of World Trade Towers were evacuated. The control towers of John F Kennedy and New York airports were also evacuated.
There were no reports of any injury or casualty in the earthquake, American Emergency Service said.
