Kabul: At least 19 people, including five policemen were killed and 37 others injured when five blasts hit the provincial governor’s house in northern Afghanistan.
The incident occurred on Sunday when at least five armed men attacked Parwan provincial governor’s office in the provincial capital Charikar city, the governor told local television from inside the compound under attack.
“I’m inside,” Abdul Basir Salangi told Tolo News, referring to a compound that houses his office and other administration offices in Parwan province, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of the capital Kabul.
Afghanistan’s interior ministry spokesman Siddiq Siddiqi reported that 14 civilians and five police officers were killed and 37 others, mostly civilians, left injured.
The ministry said that gun battle is continuing between the attackers and the Afghan security forces.
