FIA Launches Inquiry into Imran Khan’s Controversial 1971 Social Media Post

Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Wing has initiated an inquiry into a controversial social media post made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on May 26.

The post, which appeared on Khan’s official account on platform X (formerly Twitter), discussed the 1971 civil war and the findings of the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report.

Sources within the FIA revealed that the post, shared by Imran Khan’s social media team while he is incarcerated in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, included a video and a provocative quote: “Every Pakistani should study the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report and get to know who was the true traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

The video also featured imagery of current civilian and military leaders, insinuating their involvement in undermining the PTI’s mandate in recent general elections.

FIA sources disclosed that the agency plans to interrogate four senior PTI leaders regarding the incident. The post has been labeled by some officials as containing fabricated and propagandistic content, reflecting the ongoing political turbulence in the country.

Imran Khan declined to meet with a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cybercrime team that visited Adiala Jail to question him about the latest controversial tweet posted from his account. Khan insisted that he could not meet the FIA team without his lawyers present.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated that the post was not intended to target the military and should be understood in a “political context.” He added that Imran Khan had nothing to do with the post.
