Lahore: Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has said that Pakistan wanted good, meaningful relations with neighbours but at the same time she made it clear that the country won’t accept hegemony by anyone in the region.

“Pakistan is a sovereign country and will maintain its sovereignty at all costs” she said while talking to media on Sunday. Khar said that keeping relations with the US was in Pakistan’s national interest and the government will soon resume strategic dialogue with the United States.

She said that in her meeting with the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, she conveyed to her Pakistan’s reservations. The whole world including America acknowledges Pakistani role in the region. She said that Pakistan wanted bilateral relations with the US.

She told the media persons that in her meeting with the US Secretary of State it was decided that the two countries would soon resume strategic relations and a detailed meeting would be held between the foreign ministers of the two countries.

To a question regarding her meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister, she said it was a useful meeting as China is Pakistan’s time-tested friend and both the countries have strategic relations.

She said Pakistan wanted friendly ties with the neighbours but issues relating with India could not dissolve overnight. Pakistan won’t accept anyone’s hegemony and domination in the region. She said Pakistan had made great sacrifices in war on terror. “Pakistan’s role in ASEAN is important,” she said.

She said that Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai played a constructive role for the Kashmir cause living within the US limits.
