Karachi: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has staged a sit-in in Karachi against US drone attacks in tribal areas near Afghan border, bringingĀ Nato suppliesĀ to a halt.
Thousands of people, including women, students and lawyers gathered at the Native Jetty Bridge near Karachi port on Saturday, holding flags and placards, chanting slogans against the US for “the killing of innocent Pakistanis”.
PTI chairman Imran Khan on Friday visited Sunni Tehreek (ST) headquarters and JamiaĀ Binoria Al Almia in Karachi, seeking their support for his two-day sit -in. The ST leaders and the Binoria Cleric Mufti Naeem assured Imran of joining his protest against the US.
Strict security arrangement have been made by the Sindh government to avert any untoward incident. Heavy deployment of police and the RangersĀ has been made around the venue of the protest while the adjacent roads have been blocked through containers.
The provincial government has announced alternative routes for traffic.
