Karachi: Five people were killed when a blast ripped through a gambling spot in Karachi, the southern city of Pakistan, on Friday evening, rescue sources said.
According to the initial information, unidentified person threw a hand grenade in Mohammadi Street of Jhat Pat Market, Chakiwara area of Liyari Town and fled. The area was stated to be the gambling spot, but any police official has not confirmed it. The blast also wounded some 23 people.
The bodies and injured were rushed to Civil Hospital Karachi. Number of casualties could rise as many injured were in critical condition, hospital sources said.
Relatives of the deceased and injured held protest outside CHK over the shortage of doctors, and later Rangers were deployed around the hospital to disperse the people.
Rescue officials said that teams are facing difficulties to evacuate the injured and bodies from the area because of congested location and rush of people.
Heavy contingent of police and bomb disposal squad also rushed to the spot to investigate the incident.
Later, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah severely condemned the blast and sought a report of the blast from relevant authorities.
The CM ordered to arrest those who run the gambling center and also those who patronize to run the center.
It is pertinent to mention here that some 22 people had been killed in a planted bomb inside a Rammi Club in Ghas Mandi area of Liyari Town, wounding several others.
