Colombo: Pakistan beat defending champion Australia by four wickets in a Group A match of cricket World Cup 2011 at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Saturday. Pakistan is now on top position in its Group.
Asad Shafiq scored 46 runs, while Umar Akmal scored 44 runs not out. Younis Khan, Kamran Akmal and Abdul Razzak scored 31, 23 and 20 runs, respectively.
Brett Lee got four wickets, while Jason Krejza and Mitchell Johnson took one wicket each.
Earlier, Australian captain Ricky Ponting won the toss and chose to bat first. They scored 176 runs all out in 47th over.
Brad Haddin was the top scorer from Australia who scored 42 runs, while Micheal Clarke, Steven Smith and Ponting scored 34, 25 and 19 runs, respectively.
Umar Gul grabbed three wickets, while Abdul Razzak took two wickets. Wahab Riaz, Abdul Rehman, Mohammad Hafeez and Shahid Afridi got one wicket each.
Umar Akmal was declared man of the match owing to his good batting performance.
