Peshawar: A local court on Monday extended the detention of a US national Aaron Mark DeHaven till March 18, sources said.
DeHaven was arrested for overstaying in the country illegally from Pakistan northwest city Peshawar and was sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand by the court of Judge Qudratullah.
DeHaven is believed to have been working for a private security company .
De Haven’s earlier bail plea was rejected last week, but the additional and sessions judge court was due to give its ruling on an appeal later Monday.
Anti-US sentiments are running high in Pakistan after Jan 27 incident in which a CIA contractor Raymond Dacivs shot dead two youth in Lahore. The United States, insisting that Davis has diplomatic immunity, is demanding his release.
Police say De Haven’s Pakistani visa had expired in October, and that he was working for security contractor Catalyst Services, providing security and accommodation to foreigners working on development projects in the region.
