Islamabad: Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday remarked that neither laws nor guidelines existed for strategic areas of the country.
The remarks came during the hearing of Reko Diq case. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice was hearing the case.
The court directed companies exploring reserves in the region to provide their details. Khalid Anwar, the counsel of Tethyan Copper Company, informed the court that the military was briefed about the agreement and they had no objection over the deal. He said over 20 private companies were operating in Chagi region.
Director General Mineral Development in his statement said gold can be find in Reko Dig gold and copper reservoirs at 20 feet depth.
The apex court directed the Deputy Attorney General to consult defence institutions on the contract in the light of national security.
Abdul Hafeez Peerzada, the lawyer for BHP, an exploring company, told court that the joint agreement of Reko Diq case was signed in 1993 following the consent of then Balochistan chief minister.
