Mirpur: India beat Bangladesh by 87 runs in the first match of Cricket World Cup 2011 at Share Bangala National Stadium, Mirpur, on Saturday.
Virender Sehwag and Virat Kholi hit centuries to help India set a huge total of 370 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Shewag scored the fifth highest score of World Cup history. He amassed 175 runs on 140 balls while his young partner Kohli scored 100 not out on just 83 balls.
Little master Sachin Tendulkar was run out on 28 runs. Ghambir scored 39 runs.
Shafiul Islam went for 69 runs in seven overs and picked just one wicket.
Bangladeshi scored 283 runs for the loss of nine wickets in reply.
Opener Tamim Iqbal remained the top scorer with 70 runs while skipper Shakibul Hassan scored 55 runs.
Munaf Patel grabbed four wickets. Pacer Zaheer Khan picked up two wickets while Harbhajan Singh and Yousuf Pathan got one wicket each.
Virender Sehwag was declared man of the match on his outstanding batting.
