Islamabad: The Supreme Court on Thursday heard petitions challenging the appointment of Justice (retd) Syed Deedar Hussain Shah as Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
A four-member bench comprising Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa is hearing petitions moved by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and citizen Shahid Orakzai.Muhammad Akram Sheikh Adovocate, counsel for petitioner Ch. Nisar Ali Khan argued that consultation process was not adopted according to the law in appointing the NAB chairman.
He added that the president could not assign the right of consultation to any person in this regard.He said that Supreme Court chief justice should be consulted in the appointment. Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani questioned that whether the article 48 of the constitution was being followed or not. Justice Javed Iqbal remarked that Charter of Democracy was the deal between the two political parties and it has nothing to do with the case.
