ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Finance Minister has warned if political parties and leaders don’t support the government in its economic reforms program then the fiscal deficit is feared to reach 8 percent during the current financial year.
Dr Abdul Hafiz Sheikh said this while talking to media after briefing members of parliamentary parties.
He said that consultation process and meetings with political parties and parliamentary leaders were under way and government would not take any step without taking political parties into confidence.
Pursuing austerity culture in all sectors, efforts have been made to keep fiscal deficit less than 3 percent, he said.
Talking of financial statistics he said national exports had surpassed 20 billion dollars and foreign exchange reserves had swelled to more than 17 billion dollars. Government would take more steps to further improve foreign exchange reserves, he assured.
