Peshawar: A suspected US drone fired missiles in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region near Afghan border, killing at least 16 people and injuring 15 others, sources said on Thursday.
The sources said that the unmanned aircraft attacked a seminary inĀ Buland Khail area of Upper Orakzai. Media reports said the attack was carried out on a seminary of Maulvi Shakirullah of Haqqani Network.
Three houses adjacent to the seminaryĀ were also damaged in the drone strike, the media reports added.
They said the drone fired at least four missiles in the area.Ā Panic gripped the residents of area following the strike .The identities of those who killed were yet to be known.
Pakistanās Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lodged a protest with the US Embassy on drone strikes inside Pakistani territory .
Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman, in a statement, said that the United States Embassy was informed that the drone strikes on Pakistani territory were a clear violation of International Law and Pakistanās sovereignty.
He said these attacks are unacceptable to Pakistan.
āThe attack was aimed at the compound of Maulana Shakirullah, who is the commander of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP),ā officials said.
