Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) stalwarts, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Ishaq Dar, respectively, are set to return unopposed in the upcoming Senate elections.
On Tuesday, which is last day of nomination papers’ submission, no other candidates of any party submitted nomination papers for the two technocrat seats from Punjab except Aitzaz Ahsan and Ishaq Dar. Hence, the unopposed election of the two as member of upper house of the parliament is certain.
Aitzaz Ahsan, a leading jurist of the country and a former Interior Minister, has boycotted the last general elections on the call of Pakistan Bar Council in protest against sacking of superior court judges by the then military dictator. While Ishaq Dar is incumbent member of the Senate and retiring on March 12 after completing his six-year term.
