DHAKA: Pakistan snatched a last over victory against Bangladesh in a sensational match, thanks to a blistering knock by Shahid Afridi in the final overs of the Asia Cup match .
Pakistan chased the total , longest chase in the team’s history with the help of young cricketet Fawad Alam who scored 74 runs and watched the situation almost through the end.
In an Asia Cup match here, Bangladesh played first and made a 327 runs mammoth total.
Bangladesh’s Aman-ul-Haque made a 100 while Kayes, Momin-ul-Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim made half centuries.
Pakistan started the innings well as opener Ahmed Shahzad scored a brisk century to keep Pakistan in the match while Hafeez made 52.
But the falling wickets and low run rate made everyone think that Pakistan will eventually lose the match.
Pakistan at one time needed 87 runs off 45 balls.
So, it was Afridi who made a quick 50, one of the fastest in the one day cricket history to bring back Pakistan in the match.
It was Afridi who quicklly brought Pakistan to 260 and snatched the bonus point from the Bangladesh first and then the match.
Bangladeshi fans were crying when Mushfiq dropped him.
After Afridi’s dismissal, Fawad started hitting boundaries.
Fawad made 74 runs and played till the last over when he was run out.
Umar Akmal hit the last four when Pakistan needed 3 runs off last 2 balls and left Pakistani fans in joy while
Bangladeshi ones in distress.
Bangladesh’s only successful bowler was Mominul Haque, who took 2 wickets for 37 runs in 9 overs.
Shahid Afridi was declared “Man of the Match” for his blistering knock that changed the game for Pakistan.
Pakistan will now play the final match of the Asia Cup trophy against Sri Lanka.
