ISLAMABAD: Sartaj Aziz, the Special Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security, said that US government has assured for stoppage of drone attacks in Pakistan during dialogues process with Taliban groups.
Pakistan’s prominent governmental personality in foreign department, Sartaj Aziz has revealed that the US authorities assured closure of drone operation in Pakistan.
Aziz told the recent development during Senate’s standing committee on foreign affairs meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday.
He said, ‘Hakimullah Mehsud, the deceased chief of banned outfit Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was a high-value target hence drone attack carried by US.’
Aziz added that Pakistani authorities were in contact with the killed TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud and sent 3 names in order to initiate peace dialogues with the organisation but now the process is disconnected till yet.
He added that the TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud also provided two name for stepping forward in the peace meetings.
Aziz said that US government discussed matters relating to Dr. Shakeel Afridi while Pakistan presented its stance about Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
The PM’s advisor said that the US authorities made agreement for closing their drone operations in the tribal areas of Pakistan after the federal government’s strong protests against the drone strikes; especially the one which killed TTP chief.
However, Sartaj Aziz claimed that positive reply came from the US government by ensuring complete stoppage of drone strikes in Pakistan during the negotiations’ period.
