ISLAMABAD: The tenure of Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is coming to an end. However, sources claim that he may get another extension.
The tenure of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is coming to an end in November after six years. During this time, he has allowed the elected civilian leadership to complete their tenure unlike his predecessors.
Kayani is amongst the most powerful personalities of Pakistan and is known for his ability to dialogue. He played pivotal role in diffusing tensions between two biggest political personalities, Pakistan Muslim League N’s leader Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party’s co chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
According to a revelation by a government sources, Kayani may likely get another extension. This is because Kayani is seen as a key figure to hold dialogues with Taliban as well as Afghanistan. The government claims that in the best interest of the country to have him by its side.
It is also to be noted that the government of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz never had any problems with General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
