BEIJING: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has left for Islamabad after completing ‘fruitful’ five-day visit to China.
Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Vanessa Shih and Chinese top officials had seen off the PM Sharif and other Pakistani officials on Monday.
PM Sharif held high level talks with top leadership including during his 5-day visit for strengthening broad-based cooperative relationship with China as well as expansion of economic and trade ties.
Regional situations, Afghanistan and major security issues were discussed during PM’s meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang.
For the enhancement of economic and trade cooperation in various fields especially energy sector, a number of agreements and Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) signed between both countries.
Pakistan and China signed eight agreements on Friday during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit which termed as advancement of bilateral relationship and strong economic cooperation.
Establishment of an economic corridor between Pak-China following the agreements include construction of Gwadar to Kashgar roads and railway network, 2000 mega watts coal power plants’ projects as well as solar power generating project for Punjab and fiber optic line between Rawalpindi and Khunjerab at cost of $440 million.
Memorandum of understanding (MoU) also signed by both side on eradication of polio, cooperation in economic and technical sections, exchange and corporation.
During the visit, Pakistan PM held constructive and effective talks with Chinese leaders as well as met officials of important industrial centers, Special Economic Zones, leaders of cooperate and financial sectors.
One of major power distribution companies, China Southern Power Grid, has assured assistance to Pakistan for elimination of energy crisis during PM Nawaz Sharif’s visit to headquarter in Guangzhou, the capital and largest city of the Guangdong province.
The PM concretised the proposals and initiatives which were finalised earlier by the Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal-led task force on a previous visit to China.
