PESHAWAR: Powerful blast at Awami National Party rally has killed 15 people including five policemen and left 33 injured in Peshawar, a metropolitan of Pakistan.
According to local sources, senior ANP leader and former federal minister Ghlam Ahmed is also among injured.
“At least 10 people have been wounded in the bomb blast. We cannot say anything about Ghulam Ahmed Bilour right now,” senior police official Khalid Mehmood Hamdani told AFP.
Eight people including a child and two police officials were killed during the incident.
The sources told all security measures were taken before the rally but they could not prevent the untoward happening.
It should be mentioned here that The TTP has announced death threats against politicians from the ANP, which ruled Khyber province from 2008 until the provincial assembly was dissolved few weeks ago.
“We have directed our associates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to target ANP election rallies and all its leaders,” the TTP spokesman said.
Violence is one the rise in the northwest as Pakistan prepares to hold a general election and provincial elections on May 11, which will mark the country’s first democratic transition of power.
