LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has proposed names of renowned journalist Najam Sethi and Justice (retd) Zahid Hussain for the post of Punjab caretaker chief minister, withdrawing the names of Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa and Mian Aamir Mehmood on Saturday.
Dunya TV owner Mian Mehmood earlier regretted to accept the offer because of his background in the media.
The PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), under Article 224-A of the Constitution, have three days to appoint a caretaker chief minister after the dissolution of the provincial assembly. Today is the last day.
The decision if not made by the two parties, will go on to a committee constituted by the speaker of the provincial assembly.
And even if the committee fails to do so, the case will then be referred to the Election Commission of Pakistan as in the case of caretaker prime minister.
