Tokyo: The toll in the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan has risen to 11,800, with 15,540 people remaining unaccounted, Xinhua quoted National Police Agency here as saying Saturday.
The magnitude 9 earthquake and ensuing tsunami devastated the northeastern region of Japan and also damaged the country’s Fukushima nuclear plant.
The search for the missing by Japan and US forces will end Sunday. Thereafter, the country will shift its focus to a daunting reconstruction effort.
