PERTH, Australia: South Africa were dismissed for 569 in their second innings late on the third day of the third and final Test against Australia at the WACA Ground on Sunday.
Having led by 62 in the first innings, the Proteas set Australia a record target of 632 runs to win in just over two days, with the home side needing victory to claim the number one spot in the Test rankings.
The highest successful fourth innings run chase in Test cricket history is the West Indies’ 418 against Australia at St John’s in 2003.
Hashim Amla led the way for the Proteas with 196, while AB de Villiers made 169.
Mitchell Starc picked up six for 154 for Australia, his best figures in Test cricket and his first five-wicket haul.
