San Francisco: Google has refused to remove the anti-Islam movie ‘Innocence of Muslims’ from YouTube, rejecting a White House request on Friday to remove the blasphemous film.
Google said it was banning the video in India and Indonesia after censoring it in Egypt and Libya on Wednesday. US embassies have been attacked in various countries in the wake of the movie that insulted Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
On Tuesday, the US Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were killed in a fiery siege on the embassy in Benghazi, Reuters reported.
Google said: “We’ve restricted access to it in countries where it is illegal such as India and Indonesia, as well as in Libya and Egypt, given the very sensitive situations in these two countries.
“This approach is entirely consistent with principles we first laid out in 2007.”
