England beat South Africa by six runs on Sunday in a group B match of Cricket World Cup 2011 after they were bundled out for just 171.
South Africans collapsed twice in their batting. First they slipped from 63 for no loss to 127 for seven. Then Dale Steyn and van Wyk pushed them to 160. With just twelve runs needed, the second collapse began in the 47th over. They lost their last three wickets in nine balls.
Stuart Broad was the hero for the English side. Having removed Amla and Kallis earlier in the innings, he came back to remove a well set Steyn and then Morne Morkel, the tenth wicket to fall.
Earlier, England batting collapsed twice as well. Having lost three key batsmen at 15, they recovered to 114 before the second collapse began. After Trott’s 52 and Bopara’s 60, none offered much resistance to the South African bowlers. Pakistan-born Imran Tahir was once again a star as he claimed four wickets for 38 runs. Peterson took three.
