ISPR Urges Accountability for May 9 Violence Planners and Executioners

Rawalpindi: In a stern message, the military has reiterated the call for holding accountable the planners, facilitators, and executioners of the violence that erupted on May 9, warning that the nation would remain vulnerable to conspiracies if justice is not served promptly.

During the 83rd Formation Commanders Conference of the Pakistan Army, chaired by Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) shared the military’s stance on the matter.

“The forum noted that planners, perpetrators, abettors, and facilitators of 9th May need to be brought to justice for the collective good of the country,” stated the military leadership.

The military emphasized that without establishing the rule of law and ensuring a swift and transparent judicial process, the country would continue to be vulnerable to such conspiratorial elements.

Addressing the issue of “digital terrorism,” the military leadership highlighted ongoing efforts to spread misinformation and lies against state institutions, particularly the armed forces, with the support of foreign facilitators. This digital terrorism aims to sow discord among national institutions and the people, they added.

However, the military assured the nation of its awareness of these nefarious designs and pledged to decisively defeat those resorting to lies and propaganda.

In addition, the conference also raised grave concerns regarding ongoing cross-border infringements and the orchestration of terrorism from Afghan soil, the forum observed that Pakistan’s opponents were utilizing Afghanistan as a base to attack security forces and innocent civilians within Pakistan.

The forum recognized the invaluable sacrifices made by the residents of the Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) in the battle against terrorism and emphasized the significance of developing the NMDs to effectively eliminate terrorism.

The conference also delved into economic matters, expressing full support for sustainable economic development initiatives by the government. The military pledged assistance in curbing illegal activities such as smuggling, hoarding, and power theft.

Furthermore, the forum reaffirmed its commitment to government measures aimed at protecting national data in various sectors and endorsed initiatives like a one-document regime and the dignified repatriation of illegal expatriates.

It also expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination and condemned human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Additionally, the conference condemned human rights violations and war crimes in Gaza and expressed support for the International Court of Justice’s decision to stop the Rafah Operation and other operations within the Gaza Strip.

This renewed emphasis on accountability for the May 9 violence follows earlier statements by the ISPR denouncing the criminal acts and affirming that there would be no compromise with the perpetrators.
