If you are tired of doing countless tricks to get off your fat, then there is a golden tip for you that says eating food in small pieces may help in controlling weight.
Small pieces of food are more satisfying than a single large piece of food containing same amount of calories, revealed a study presented at a conference this week.
Society for the study of Ingestive Behavior held its 2012 meeting in Zurich, Switzerland scheduled from 10 to 14 July. Researchers concluded that human finds eating food in smaller pieces more satisfying and enjoyable.
Devina Wadhera, lead author from the Psychology department at Arizona University in US, says “Cutting up energy-dense meal foods into smaller bits may be helpful to dieters who wish to make their meal more satiating while also maintaining portion control.”
Previous studies have also shown that large pieces of food make people to eat more. Wadhera and team focused on the size and number of food pieces for this study as human beings judge food quantity on several standards, number and size are one of those standards.
Wadhera and team invited 301 college students to take part in an experiment, where everyone was given an 82g bagel, either cut or uncut.
After twenty minutes, these students were invited to eat as much as they like. The left over bagels were then measured to see how much every student has eaten.
The result concluded that students, who were given uncut bagel, ate more calories in both the meals than ones who were provided pieces of bagels.
And thus this eating behavior of students showed that food in smaller pieces is more satisfying than the single large portion of food.
