Washington: United States (US) President Barack Obama said that he was “deeply saddened” by the killings of Afghan civilians by a US soldier, media reported on Sunday.
According to reports Obama said the incident, which is seen as likely to inflame tense US-Afghan relations, did not reflect US respect for the Afghan people.
“This incident is tragic and shocking and does not represent the exceptional character of our military and the respect that the United States has for the people of Afghanistan,” Obama said in a statement.
Today, an American soldier killed at least 16 Afghan citizens in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan.
