Israel’s Assault on Gaza: 24 Hours of Intense Attacks Leave 47 Dead

Gaza City: In a relentless 24-hour assault, Israel’s military forces have launched a series of brutal attacks across Gaza, resulting in the deaths of 47 Palestinians and injuring 52 others. The offensive has targeted densely populated civilian areas in the north, center, and south of Gaza, with ground troops systematically demolishing residential homes.

The most intense attacks were reported in Gaza City’s Sabra and Shujayea neighborhoods, where Israeli airstrikes on residential homes resulted in at least eight fatalities, as reported by Wafa news agency. Overnight, six people were killed and several others injured in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza. Additional casualties include one person in Beit Lahiya and two in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood.

In southern Khan Younis, a devastating attack on a school housing displaced people claimed the lives of several women and children. The assault extended to Gaza City’s Zeitoun, Hawa, and Sheikh Ijlin areas, with Israeli artillery strikes causing further destruction and casualties. In Rafah, Israeli ground forces systematically demolished residential buildings in the western part of the city.

Tragically, the humanitarian crisis continues to escalate, with reports from Kamal Adwan Hospital indicating that a Palestinian girl has died of malnutrition, joining the ranks of dozens of children who have suffered the same fate during the ongoing conflict.

In the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces have intensified their crackdown, arresting 28 people in the latest raids. Since the beginning of the conflict, a total of 9,430 arrests have been made in near-daily operations.

Since Israel launched its war on Gaza on October 7, at least 37,765 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks, mostly children and women, and 86,429 others wounded.

Since October 7, the conflict has exacted a heavy toll on Gaza’s infrastructure, with approximately 65 percent of the enclave’s roads damaged, according to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT). Satellite imagery analysis revealed extensive destruction, including 1,100km of roads destroyed, 350km severely affected, and 1,470km moderately affected.

Israel’s War Against Children

Earlier this month, the United Nations added Israel to its “blacklist” of countries accused of harming children during conflicts. Save the Children has now called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the missing children in Gaza, citing concerns over disappearances, detentions, and casualties buried under rubble or in mass graves.

The scale of the devastation is staggering. According to UNICEF Deputy Chief, the bodies of thousands of missing children remain buried under rubble, highlighting the dire situation for Gaza’s youngest and most vulnerable residents.

Save the Children has raised the alarm over the fate of up to 21,000 children who remain missing since the Israeli war began on October 7.

The staggering Palestinian death toll in Gaza from relentless Israeli attacks includes over 16,000 children, leaving 17,000 orphaned.

A UN report published in June documented “8,009 grave violations against 4,360 children” across Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank, underscoring the severity of the humanitarian crisis affecting Palestinian children.
